Fluttershy "Go on, say it...." Discord "um num....alright....friendship is magic!"
No, no no no no no.
Good writing 101 - Never close a drama bit with a joke, close a drama bit with drama, and if you have too, a joke to ease the tension
If Discord went "Um num....alright....I'm sorry......" and then added Fluttershy going "Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd?" Discord "Friendship is magic!" that adds brevity to the drama scene for recovery
What the end of this episode did is this.
Take a episode of ER, the doctor just spent 8 hours working on a heart patient who barely pulled through, and he's in the recovery room. The patient is laying there barely concious, and the doctor comes up to talk to him. The doctor goes "How are you feeling?" Patient "Weak........was it a success?" D "Yeah, I think we fixed it" P "Doctor.....I just want to say....thank you....thank you for giving me the chance to continue living....."
And then the doctor honks the patients nose
That's what the ending did. You want to argue that discord going "Friendship is magic!" was a joke out of him given his attitude that's fine, but I'll call hogwash on that because the comment was meant to be that he admitted defeat, and not a scene of brevity
The funny thing is, you could have kept this scene entirely the same way it is, but instead of him going "Friendship is magic!" like he's a 6 year old trying to swallow his carrots quickly, this scene could be fixed with him being somber/sad in pitch, YET one of acceptance, this way it closes the drama loop, yet gives brevity to the scene because since he's saying a tagline seriously, it both completes the drama segment, yet the tagline "Friendship is magic" adds the slight touch of comedy to break the scene.
Him racing through the line like he couldn't stomach it doesn't give the drama loop closure, this is even more glaring because just the scene prior, Celestia leans in and further increases the tension of the scene by going "I'll leave the elements of harmony with you, just in case....."
Anyways, the rest of the episode was great, it was just that last ending line from John De Lancie that kicked me hard for being so badly written.
Mental Note : Hire Discord to roll your enemies' houses in the air. It's tons of fun to watch.
I hope for the love of everything, that Discord is playing a trick on them all and is still evil.
